Railway Bridge live loads: Derailment load

Question:

How do you apply Clause 8.5.2 (b) of BD37/01 (pg. A/80) ?

The clause is the specification for Derailment Load for Design RL loading at ULS which can be applied anywhere on the deck.

Answer:

Do note that I “borrowed” the vehicle definition from the Eurocode to facilitate the derail load specification. If you can find a more convenient substitute, then all the better.

As the derail load can happen anywhere on the bridge deck, variable lane definition can be created to investigate as many positions as possible.
